On Thursday, May 8th, from 6:30 - 8:30, enjoy the taste of spring sake and other premium sake selections from Joto Sake importers. Our guest host from Joto Sake will be pouring Watarabune Namasake, a special limited sake from a new brewer in the importer’s portfolio. It will be paired with a special Shiso Pork Gyoza to highlight the tastes of spring! Additionally, we will be pairing the Yuki no Bosha Akitahonmachi Dai Ginjo with a selection of Assorted Sushi (Maguro, Salmon, Scallops), and the Chikurin Fukamari (”Depth”) Junmai Sake with a Spring Bamboo Shoot and Kobe Beef Stew. We are offering two scrumptuous, six course prix fixe menus: a Japanese menu and a California Fusion menu. There are two seatings: 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM. The 6:30 seating has the full six course menus, or, for only $35 per person, you can to choose to have just four courses (no soup or 1st course; paired sake for each course is an additional $14).
The 8:30 seating features the full six course Kaiseki menus for $55 per person; each course can be paired with sake for an additional $20. Great news to start the Spring: Chef Mari is the guest chef at Mission Street Food this Thursday!. MSF is a twice-weekly foodie evening held at Lang Shun restaurant on Mission Street that features chefs from many popular SF restaurants and lounges. Mari will be cooking Pork Belly, Yaki Onigiri, Okonomiyaki, and Mizuna Salad, and Gil has paired Sake for the menu. It will be open from 6:00pm to midnight.

Next Wednesday, from 7 to 8:30PM, we are hosting sake importer Sake Story for a pairing of five of their breweries with four special tapas made by Chef Mari, and one Western tapas made by our guest Chef Jeff Banker, former executive chef of Home Restaurant. Call 681-7150 to make your reservation today.Though Jeff has yet to confirm his dish, Chef Mari will be serving the following:
1) Wasabi-tossed organic beets in Belgian endive cups
2) Tuna Sashimi served with Yuzu Kosho Aioli and scallions
2) Yu Dofu (warm tofu) in a Shichimi Ponzu sauce
3) Chicken Roulade served wtih Vinegared Egg Yolk and a Wakame (seaweed) salad
Our guest from Sake Story, Kiyo Kojima, will be giving away bottles of sake to the most attentive audience members, so ask lots of questions!
